PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CELEBRATES 20 YEARS IN ITS NEW FACILITY

  • FREE FAMILY FUN DAY AT PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2012
  • SCHEDULED TOURS TO THE AIRSIDE TERMINAL OFFERED FOR $5 DONATION

PITTSBURGH, PA (August 28, 2012) – Pittsburgh International Airport is turning 20 and you are invited to the celebration. The Allegheny County Airport Authority is hosting a family fun day free and open to the public on Saturday, October 6 from 10 am to 3 pm. The event will take place in the Landside Terminal at Pittsburgh International Airport. Activities include live music, activities for children including bouncy houses, giant slide and obstacle challenges. Event parking is also free.

The highlight of the celebration will be airport tours from 10 am to 3 pm, Saturday, October 6, 2012. People can purchase tickets to take an airside tour of Pittsburgh International Airport. The fee is $5 per person which benefits the Allegheny County Airport Authority Serve-A-Soldier program. Children under 12 are free.

“Just like in the days prior to 9-11, visitors will be able to go to the AIRMALL, visit the gate areas and watch planes take off and land,” stated David Minnotte, Chairman, Allegheny County Airport Authority. Many exciting activities are being planned by the Airport Authority, the AIRMALL shops and restaurants, and the airlines.

“Pittsburgh International Airport is rated among the best airports for design and ease of access. To the region, it is a genuine community asset that drives a great amount of economic activity. In observing the 20th anniversary, we will celebrate the qualities that continue to keep this facility world class and we will explore our vision for the future as it relates to attracting more passengers, flights and development to southwestern Pennsylvania,” explained Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

The Airport Authority is also planning an Aviation Models Exhibit featuring models and artifacts from Allegheny County Airport Authority employees, airlines and other airport family employees on display in landside and airside terminals.
