PIT Passenger Traffic Report For August 2012


PITTSBURGH, PA (October 10, 2012) – In August 2012, JetBlue Airways realized a 16.6 percent increase in passengers compared to August 2011, according to the Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. Air Canada also showed a 10.8 percent increase.

Overall traffic for the month dipped at Pittsburgh International Airport ( by 5.2 percent in compared to August 2011. A total of 727,579 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport for the month, compared to 767,792 scheduled passengers in August 2011 (727,579 in August 2012/767,792 in August 2011; 5.2 percent decrease). Overall, year-to-date scheduled passenger totals show traffic down 3.4 percent (5,380,940/5,567,751; 3.4 percent).

JetBlue increased it passenger numbers primarily because more people are choosing JetBlue to Boston and New York JFK. The number of flights offered did not vary from year to year so this growth is based on passenger loyalty to the brand. The total passengers for the month went from 22,396 in 2011, to 26,116 in 2012. Recognized with numerous JD Power and Associates awards, JetBlue provides competitive airfares and has a mission to provide superior customer service. This airline is the major reason fares to New York airports and Boston are low price. August was the seventh consecutive month JetBlue reported an increase. The airline provides three flights a day to Boston and two flights a day to New York JFK from Pittsburgh International Airport.

Air Canada’s nearly 11 percent jump in passengers is related to additional passenger traffic to Toronto, Air Canada’s major hub. Air Canada provides 4 flights a day to Toronto, Canada.
