PITTSBURGH (September 9, 2011) – Scheduled passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) continues to show year-to-date gains with six airlines reporting increases, according to the July 2011 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. A total of 771,270 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport in July.

Year-to-date scheduled passenger totals show traffic up 3.8 percent (4,799,959/4,623,940; 3.8 percent). Delta Air Lines’ realized an increase in July of more than 10,000 passengers, equaling a 7.8 percent increase (146,899/136,261; 7.8 percent). Influencing factors include Delta’s daily flights to Paris and three new daily flights to Boston.

Southwest (146,569/139,884; 4.8 percent) also reported an increase in passengers as did American (57,831/51,524; 12.2 percent); Continental (53,101/46,843; 13.4 percent); Myrtle Beach Direct Air (9,473/8,242; 14.9 percent); and Air Canada (4,762/4,394; 8.4 percent).

Overall passenger traffic in July 2011 compared to July 2010 dropped slightly, a 1.0 percent decrease (771,270 in July 2011/779,145 in July 2010; 1.0 percent decrease).

Commercial operations continue to show a steady increase through the year, including July’s 5.3 percent increase (11,319/10,753; 5.3 percent).

Travelers Advisory: With increased traffic and the heavy summer travel months just ahead, the Allegheny County Airport Authority is reminding travelers to arrive at Pittsburgh International Airport at least 90 minutes to two hours before the scheduled departure of their flight.

The Airport Authority reports that there are two security checkpoints at Pittsburgh International Airport. The Main Checkpoint -- on the Transit Level of the Landside Terminal – is open 24 hours, while the Alternate Checkpoint – located just outside of the Ticketing Level of the Landside Terminal – is open from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Airport AIRMALL is open at 5am to accommodate travelers arriving early.
