|PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT FOR JULY 2013
PITTSBURGH, PA (September 13, 2013) – The number of departing scheduled flights at Pittsburgh International Airport continues to increase with 1.3 percent more flights and an increase of 4.6 percent of seats available for July 2013 compared to July 2012, according to Diio, an aviation database service.

Four airlines showed an increase in percentage of passengers in comparison to last July’s totals. AirTran had the highest percentage-based increase. The airline reported an increase of 14.4 percent passengers (70,042 passengers in July 2013/61,240 passengers in July 2012). US Airways (172,976/167,630; 3.2 percent), American (59,324/56,477; 5.0 percent), and Air Canada (5,182/4,899/5.8 percent) also reported improved passenger traffic.
Southwest Airlines will be adding a new daily nonstop destination at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). Beginning Sunday, September 29, travelers will be able to fly nonstop from Pittsburgh to Nashville International Airport (BNA) in Tennessee. Flights can be booked at southwest.com.
Other new flights in 2013 include Houston Hobby and West Palm Beach on Southwest Airlines earlier this year, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and Nassau, Bahamas Saturday-only nonstop service on Delta Air Lines beginning December 21 from Pittsburgh to the two Caribbean destinations. Delta Air Lines also received government approval to begin service to Cancun, Mexico with nonstop service to begin on February 15. Additionally, American Airlines has upgraded its aircraft on its Pittsburgh-Chicago route and launched new daily nonstop Pittsburgh to Los Angeles on August 27.
Scheduled passenger traffic decreased 1.8 percent in July 2013 compared to July 2012. A total of 718,558 passengers traveled through the airport compared to 731,572 passengers in July 2012, according to the monthly passenger traffic report prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. Year-to-date totals show traffic down 1.8 percent as 4,570,643 scheduled passengers have traveled at Pittsburgh International Airport through July 2013 compared to 4,653,361.
