  • More flights and seats available in October 2013 compared to last year
  • Four airlines report increases in traffic

PITTSBURGH, PA (December 12, 2013) – Four airlines at Pittsburgh International Airport showed an increase in passenger traffic in October 2013 in comparison to last October according to the Monthly Scheduled Airline Traffic Report compiled by the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

American Airlines reported an increase of 16.4 percent. Other airlines that reported increases in traffic include Southwest (5.2 percent), United (2.9 percent), and Frontier Airlines (5.1 percent). Frontier operates flights on behalf of Apple Vacations and also permits bookings of flights to Punta Cana and Cancun through its website.

Meanwhile, the number of departing scheduled flights for October 2013 increased 1.3 percent and the amount of departing scheduled seats available increased by 3.0 percent compared to October 2012, according to Diio, an aviation database system.

October was the first full month of Southwest’s service to Nashville (BNA) in September, as well as the first full month of AirTran’s resumed nonstop service to Ft. Lauderdale after a short hiatus. Delta Air Lines will begin new nonstop Saturday-only service to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on December 21.

Scheduled passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport decreased 3.9 percent in October 2013 compared to October 2012, as a total of 689,331 passengers traveled through the airport compared to 716,957 passengers that traveled in October 2012.

Year-to-date totals show scheduled traffic down 2.2 percent as 6,592,775 passengers have traveled at Pittsburgh International Airport through October 2013 compared to 6,738,178 through October 2012. United (2.4 percent); AirTran (8.8 percent); and American (5.4 percent) have shown increases in year-over-year scheduled traffic.
