SOUTHWEST LAUNCHES NEW NONSTOP DAILY FLIGHTS TO NASHVILLE AT PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
PITTSBURGH, PA (October 1, 2013) – Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and the Allegheny County Airport Authority celebrated Southwest Airlines’ new daily nonstop departures at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). The news conference at the airlines gate occurred just prior to take-off for the flight at 6:45 am, October 1, 2013.
The theme of the event was ‘bridging connections’ and the unique feature to this event is that a similar launch party was held in Nashville to represent connecting commerce and tourism in Nashville. In Pittsburgh, the event featured country music, an array of Nashville ‘music city’ related snacks and tourism information. In Nashville, a ‘Pittsburgh Oktoberfest’ event included Pittsburgh polka music, regional tourism information and Pittsburgh promotional items.
“This nonstop route now provides many opportunities for our two cities to share in tourism and commerce. In Nashville, passengers can also connect to more destinations on Southwest Airlines,” said County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “Southwest has been a great partner with us in Pittsburgh and we look forward to continuing to work with them to expand their market at our airport.”
“The Airport Authority is pleased to be a part of Southwest’s expansion program in Nashville. This new flight is an important one for our business and leisure travelers, and Southwest’s competitive fares make it a great option for our region,” said David Minnotte, Chairman, Allegheny County Airport Authority.
“This is a big win for Nashville International Airport, as we have heard time and time again the need for nonstop services to Pittsburgh,” Rob Wigington, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, said. “We are committed to growing Nashville’s air service by continuously attracting new destinations and nonstop services and delivering the Nashville Airports Experience to our passengers.”
Flights can be booked at southwest.com. The flight will depart PIT at 7:55 am and arrive in Nashville 8:50 am on weekdays. The return weekday departure from Nashville is 5:30pm, arriving at PIT 7:55pm.
At Pittsburgh International Airport, Southwest and AirTran serves 12 routes in addition to Nashville: Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Chicago Midway, IL; Denver, CO; Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Ft. Myers, FL; Houston Hobby, TX; Las Vegas, NV; Orlando, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Tampa, FL; West Palm Beach, FL (seasonally). Combined, both airlines average about 27 flights per day.
