PITTSBURGH, PA (October 6, 2009) – Need help getting around the airport? Airports can be overwhelming, especially for people who don’t travel much. The Allegheny County Airport Authority announced a year-round program at Pittsburgh International Airport to assist passengers with the process of checking-in, getting through the security checkpoint and to the gate.
As part of National Customer Service Week (October 5-9), the Airport Authority is pleased to offer this higher level of care for its passengers. This unique escort program is provided by the Volunteer Airport Ambassadors, a group that since 2001 has supported airport customers with the highest degree of care and service.
Pittsburgh International Airport's Ambassador Escort Program is a service designed for the individual who may be flying for the first time or is an international visitor who needs a hand navigating the airport. It is also for the adult child of an elderly parent, who is unable to escort the parent through the airport his/herself.
This escort program does not include those passengers who require wheelchair assistance. Those passengers can schedule a Wheelchair Escort through the airline they are booked on.
Ambassadors are volunteers from the community who donate their time to provide courteous and friendly assistance and provide a warm welcome to visitors at Pittsburgh International Airport. Ambassadors can make things simple in a busy airport.
“The Ambassador Escort Program has had such great success,” said Brad Penrod, Executive Director of the Allegheny County Airport Authority. “As changes to the airline industry have come about, the Ambassadors have met new challenges. The Airport Authority has expanded this wonderful program which has helped so many people.”
To set up an Ambassador escort, please call 412-472-5690 and leave your name, number and flight information. There is no charge and tips are not accepted. (Wheelchair escorts for passengers need to be scheduled through the airline.)
