PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT FOR MARCH 2012

  • Scheduled Passenger traffic up 0.6 percent

PITTSBURGH, PA (May 9, 2012) – Scheduled passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport increased 0.6 percent in March 2012 compared to March 2011 according to the March 2012 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. Six airlines reported an increase in passengers in March 2012 as a total of 702,878 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport in March 2012 (702,878 in March 2012/698,920 in March 2011; 0.6 percent increase).

US Airways (198,819/179,955; 10.5 percent), Continental (53,615/42,638; 25.7 percent), American 50,277/42,597; 18 percent), and JetBlue (24,691/17,770; 38.9 percent) led the gainers as each airline reported more than a 10 percent increase, while Delta (120,272/112,165; 7.2 percent) and Air Canada (3,405/3,373; 0.9 percent) also showed an increase in traffic..

Airlines to record decreases in traffic include: Southwest (114,473/139,080; 17.7 percent), AirTran (83,097/85,454; 2.8 percent), United (53,781/64,562; 16.7 percent) and Direct Air (448/1,735; 74.2 percent decrease), which halted operations in March.

Year-to-date totals show scheduled traffic down 2.2 percent (1,803,841/1,845,215; 2.2 percent). US Airways (505,390/492,740; 2.6 percent), Delta (306,721/288,343; 6.4 percent), American (136,148/116,494; 16.9 percent), Continental (135,891/113,058; 20.2 percent), and JetBlue (58,826/53,618; 9.7 percent) have reported increases in traffic for the year.

Southwest (326,169/360,978; 9.6 percent), AirTran (190,303/208,136; 8.6 percent), United (133,899/175,273; 23.6 percent) Air Canada (8,787/9,069; 3.1 percent) and Frontier (504/9,419; 94.6 percent) have shown decreases in traffic for the year. Direct Air, SkyWest and USA3000 no longer operate at Pittsburgh International Airport.
