Southwest Airlines Recognizes its Employees at PIT with Station of the Year Award

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES RECOGNIZES ITS EMPLOYEES AT PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WITH STATION OF THE YEAR AWARD

PITTSBURGH, PA (June 4, 2007)—Southwest Airlines, known for its excellent employee relations, recognized its employees at Pittsburgh International Airport with the Station of the Year Award for 2006. The award is given to the top performer team among all of the airports where Southwest operates.

“Pittsburgh is an outstanding operation and Southwest Airlines was honored to award this group of hard working employees with this prestigious award,” said Whitney Eichinger, Public Relations Manager for Southwest Airlines.

The station awards are based on several categories, including attendance, on time performance, baggage service, productivity, maintaining overtime, least number of complaints received and most compliments received.

“We send big congratulations to Southwest’s staff here at Pittsburgh International Airport. They have been top performers and placed a very high standard for excellent customer service. This special honor is well deserved!” stated Kent G. George, Executive Director, Allegheny County Airport Authority.

Southwest Airlines recently expanded to three gates at Pittsburgh International Airport when it launched three flights a day to Baltimore Washington in March. Southwest Airlines launched service in Pittsburgh in May 2005. Currently the airline offers nonstop flights to Philadelphia (seven/day) Chicago Midway (six/day), Orlando (three/day), Las Vegas (two/day), Phoenix (one/day), Tampa Bay (one/day). Southwest has grown to be the second busiest airline at Pittsburgh International Airport.

Southwest employs 65 at its station at Pittsburgh International Airport. The jobs include gate agents, customer service, ticketing agents, ramp agents and flight crew members. The Pittsburgh staff will celebrate at a special event in August. They will be recognized at the next Allegheny County Airport Authority board meeting on June 8, 2007.

“The Southwest Airlines employees in Pittsburgh are simply the best in the industry. They take pride in their jobs and deliver great customer service to the Pittsburgh, Tri-State area. This award just simply happens when you have SWA employees with the strong work ethic of Western PA in an airport like Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Mike Gillock, Station Manager for Southwest Airlines in Pittsburgh.
